Kindle app for pc book not downloading

I was hoping to use my Microsoft Surface Go as a reader for Kindle books - but the software is TERRIBLE in Windows 10 Tablet Mode (which is what you want when trying to use it as an e-book reader). You end up not being able to get out of the app, so have to attach the keyboard just so you can press a physical Escape key.

Like the title says ,it won't download.I open a book,select a word,press to download the Oxford dictionary.it starts downloading extremely slow(50% in an hour) and somewhere after 50% it disappears from notification window and that's it.
