There are some light spoilers in here if you haven't seen the movie. I love The King of Comedy because of how bold of a film it is, especially coming from Scorsese. Watching The King of Comedy (1982) for the first time. Initially, when watching this, I was like "yeah, this is a solid 3 out of 5, nothing that particularly amazes me ", I'm not talking about the very end of the movie, where it montages through Rupert's rise to fame and getting his own talk show (which was probably all in his The King of Comedy. With Joker coming out in a couple weeks, I revisited one of my favorite Martin Scorsese movies and wow. This movie is still uncomfortable Okay. Obvious hyperbole here. So I just finished King of Comedy, and I'm very torn on it. I don't know if it's my favourite film from Scorsese or his worst. Without a doubt I certainly think it's De Niro's best performance, but it did not have that emotional connection with me that something like Goodfellas has.
